Sulby Gardens

Sulby Hall, near Market Harborough, was demolished in the 1950s. The garden area is still owned and maintained privately and is open to Joe P periodically for a day or two at a time - the lovely lady who owns it is very welcoming. Today was one such day. About 60 varieties of apple are actually grown in the garden and today specimens of those and 75 more were displayed on the long bench in the picture. 135 in all, then. The gentleman is in the throes of trying to identify a 136th for the lady. He ultimately failed but they both agreed it was a Cox's something-or-other.

The weather had kept a lot of people away. As a result the cafe and produce stalls were very quiet. It therefore seemed polite to make a purchase or two and we thought that we would buy, inter alia, some apple cake. Then we thought that we'd eat it.
