Mighty flood levels

Well, that would explain all of those massively engineered locks then.

Only four locks today, counting the double lock as two. We were very lucky that they were all set our way. With two separate hours of between-lock cruising, it becomes almost possible to understand how relaxing and how much fun a canal holiday /could/ be.

Besançon seems much less busy than it was last weekend. We spent the afternoon on deck in the sun, watching the small boat crowd... canoes, kayaks, sculls etc.
