Pickering 1940s/World War II Weekend

Today 30 of us from our camera club went by coach to Pickering, in North Yorkshire, for their annual World War II/1940s weekend.

It started to rain when we were about half way there and stopped just as we got back on the coach to come home! Never mind, we all had a good time and I took far too many photos. I've no doubt that I'll make a flickr album sometime but anyway here's 3 photos for now. The girls in the main blip posed beautifully for us. The first extra shows one of the superb steam engines; the second extra shows the closing ceremony, which included a minutes' silence to remind us to reflect on all the loss of life in wartime.

I've been to the weekend twice before, in better weather - see here and here. Sadly they aren't having the mock battle any more: as I understand it, the charity which runs the event (the North Yorks Moors Railway) received too much hate on social media for including re-enactors dressed up as German soldiers. I'll leave you to come to your own conclusions about that.

Note: There's now a flickr album of the day here.
