It’s a serious business

The day started with a meeting about a project for which I am responsible. To do with safe and effective use of medications. Arising from unhappiness expressed by patients and family/whanau about the side effects, often related to bigger than recommended doses. A number of members of the group were unable to come. Those of us who were there made rapid progress on how to conduct the base line audit. Because one person had been actively involved in similar audits in the UK before she came to NZ.

Then to the maternal mental health team and seeing the great benefit a young woman has had from an antidepressant over the two weeks since it was started. Still a way to go, but remission is probable. So important that we aim for remission.

Messy afternoon, before leaving early to cycle home, and then drive west to a new dentist. Our lovely dentist of almost 50 years has retired. This new one is younger, but not young. Instilled a lot of confidence.

I parked the car next to where a group of people of many ages were punching in pairs, as exercise. One young girl looks very earnest, and it made me reflect that much of today has been very serious business indeed.
