Castello Maniace

The Castello Maniace is a citadel and castle situated at the far point of the Ortigia island promontory where it was constructed between 1232 and 1240 by the Emperor Frederik 11.It is named after George Maniakies the Byzantine general who  took the city in 1038.

We walked the couple of miles or so from the port to the castle on a pathway which runs right along the coast and spent quite a while just  exploring and afterwards we relaxed the courtyard where we could listen to the most wonderful mood music and just generally unwind.  I've posted this selection of blips in no special order but simply because the sky today was so bright and blue and the camera picked it up perfectly.

Thank you again for visiting my journal, it's always very much appreciated.
