Banded rail success

Last week there was too much tide to see the banded rail but today, about an hour after the tide, we sat and waited patiently and were rewarded.
Blipmate and I on our usual Saturday morning jaunt sat while lots of people tramped past us at the start of the Abel Tasman National Park track.
A beautiful long weekend celebrating the forty hour week with Labour Day on Monday.
Some people stopped and asked questions, others asked was it ok to go past or would we scare the lone white faced heron. Three couples with lots of children stopped for a bite and they were only 5 minutes into the walk. One boy threw a stick and got sent off to walk on his own. We were quite happy to just have bursts of silence in between the chatter and then retire to the Last Park Cafe for a drink.
