Car Stories

Matt and Claire are here for a quick weekend visit so we've gathered as many of the troops as we can for a barbecue.  OilMan is modeling the tee shirt from Julia's college. I love the camel mascot, so I just ordered one for myself. It's possible that the next time I publish a family picture we'll all be wearing camel tee shirts.  Claire is in the process of applying for college for next year. One possible choice has a mastodon for a mascot, but she didn't think that was a sufficient reason for going there....

We just evolved a plan to have pizza instead of a barbecue which involved driving as many cars as possible from our house to Dana and Jim's house, a distance of a mile. Matt and Claire agreed that it was a 'very LA' thing to do. That provoked a conversation about the fact that Matt and Amy have three people living in their house and five cars. It isn't practical to take a car to Connecticut, so Julia left her car at home. Claire has a car and Amy bought a new car but they never got around to selling her old one. Even with all those cars, Matt and Amy often Uber to their destination in the evening so they can have a glass or two of wine.

Jim responded that this year it is just the two of them, but they have three cars. One of them is electric and has just about enough range for him to drive it to work. If he goes farther than that he takes Peter's car (which is his old car). Peter is a freshman this year and living in a dorm, so he can't have a car at school. Or at least there is no place for him to park there.

Tim arrived in the truck ('Honky" by name) which he bought while he was still in college. He says every year he gets a letter from the state of California offering him money to take his ancient polluting vehicle off the streets. It is quintessential Tim who takes great pride in keeping Honky in running condition just because he can.

I could go on with more stories about cars, but it is time for OilMan and me to get in yet another car to drive to Dana and Jim's house because we are taking Ozzie with us and he will only go in the back seat of OilMan's car.

Only in California....
