Life in Sunny Dubai

Mall of the Emirates

First real day off for G's half term today and she had to work in the morning, on our own project. We had to stop though to get to get to our least favourite Mall. Our extremely generous friend, Jessica, gave us vouchers to watch movies at VOX cinemas last Christmas. £100 each; we saved them to try a new experience called ThEATre by Rhodes where you watch a movie sitting in a very comfy reclining chair with a blanket and pillow and eat food prepared by Gary Rhodes. Well, his recipes - you get the gist. It's taken us this long to find a suitable movie. (The vouchers had to be used before mid-December.)

We invited Pam and Jon and watched First Man in its opening week. We chose it not just because it is of interest to many due to its historical impact, but more so because G met Neil Armstrong when she worked in The Garden Tomb. It was based on the lead up to the event so a bit slow at times. The food was amazing - three courses with a main drink and coffee, and the experience - well, I'll have to save my pennies to be able to do it again, but it won't be soon.

I didn't write about it yesterday, but when I got home from the beach and was parking up, I reversed into a car in the private carpark downstairs. A massive big SUV, totally black, I just didn't see it in the dark. The Peugeot had a cracked rear light, the SUV had minor scuffs. I left a message for the owner to get in touch if he felt it needed, and today he did. He wants to go to the police!

Anyway, we went to the Peugeot garage to suss out how much a new light costs and did the weekly shop while we were on that side of town. Got back, and I met the owner of the big black SUV. He had calmed down by this time and was happy to try out the new SMART app by Dubai Police for reporting minor accidents. It took a while to do it and it wasn't ideal taking shots of the damage in the night, but we uploaded all the details, and are now waiting to get the paperwork that the insurance company needs to get his bumper repaired.

And talking about cars, the Volvo needed yet another part (crankshaft pulley!) which the garage managed to find locally - secondhand. The person selling was asking an extremely high price, but they managed to bring his down to a more reasonable figure this afternoon, so I could soon be reunited with my car! Can't wait.
