Croeso

An apple flavoured part of the day today - over the border to Erddig, where they are having a month long apple festival. 141 varieties are grown here - we bought brown paper bags of Malling Kent (eaters) and Cat's Head (cookers).

Pressing apples looks hard work, and today it was a spectator sport. We thought we had better buy some of Ralph's Cider and Perry after all of that effort.

Erddig's an interesting place. A fascinating house, occupied for 250 years by a family who had their own ideas about how to do things - not that well off, vegetarian, teetotal, terrified of fire (hand grenade extinguishers everywhere and a steel roof) and treated the servants like members of the family. There aren't many places like this with so many portraits of the staff, with poems written by the boss extolling their virtues (extra).
