Jerez Day 2 - Spanish Riding School

The reason we came to Jerez was to attend a show at the Spanish Riding School in their beautiful grounds a short walk from our apartment. On the way there we passed by a magnificent statue (extras). Jerez celebrates the horse, the sherry and the flamenco and all over are statues to honour them all.

The show was amazing and as good as I imagined it to be. The horses are magnificent dancing to the music and when 10 of them rode in formation then splitting off in different directions then meeting up again it was fabulous.

We were getting hungry so off we went in search of Tapas and were not disappointed after being beckoned by a customer into a magnificent restored former 12 century stable. The owner welcomed us and said he would bring us Tapas- first was a sardine perfectly cooked on bread and second was minced wild boar mixed with herbs and onion - so tasty. He also poured some sherry from the casks against the wall. We struck it lucky on a place we stumbled upon by accident. And it was so cool inside after being a greasy spot walking in the heat of the mid day sun!

Back for a siesta and evening meal search. We had two places in mind both recommended by the rep for the apartment so we chose the one next to the City Hall, mainly for me to watch the weddings that were taking place . Both were beautiful and also the outfits of the guests were too ( not a chav type in sight). And I didn’t see any 20-30 year olds copying the horrendous Kim Kardashian look. Maybe it’s only UK and USA that think it’s cool! They don’t seem to wear hats but their long dark hair perfectly wound round their head in elaborate styles.

The waiter recommended the freshly caught king prawns and I chose that. They arrived cooked to perfection in a garlic and brandy sauce with rice and a salad. Oh my word they were amazing - even a month back I still can taste the delight of this dish. Pudding was a St Honore with ice cream and I don’t know what it was (translation was last on me) again, amazing. We had some great food this holiday.

We had a wander through the little street and plaza’s still warm and lots of families out till late. Not us, again we were exhausted with all the walking around in the heat!
