River of Flowers

By doffy

Monday: Aster “Audrey” ...

... which is providing some welcome colour opposite our living room window, especially in today’s sunshine!
Lovely surprise this morning when I saw 3 goldfinch feasting on the seeds in the teasel and the Inula, first time I’ve seen them do this and extremely glad because I grow the flowers for insects & now see how it provides food for birds too! Inula aren’t very tidy but strong enough to stand up to local wind

have almost finished clearing the tomato plants and tubs out of the greenhouse, see extra of slug and her eggs plus a little experiment using chopped eating apple in a plant pot to attract slugs which will then go into compost bins!
Sowed some seeds in cells late afternoon, I’d sifted some of the dry compost, remainder went into compost bins.
Seeds sown: Crambe maritima, Antirrhinum “Tom Thumb mixed” (thank you Jo xx), Larkspur “Giant Imperial mixed”, Chicory “Rosa di Treviso”, Leek “Blue de Solaise”, Mustard “Green in the snow”, Viola tricolor (Heartsease), Cakile maritima “Sea rocket”, Hablitzia tamnoides (Caucasian spinach), Onion “Gold of Bologna” and a handful of Forage Peas for pea shoots in salad.
Productive day!!
