Less glamorous side of being a signalman

A great day down on the railway. Warm and sunny with plenty of time to put my feet up. I had a trainee with me for the day which meant there was little to do other than supervision. Seeing as this was his 9th turn in the box and the third with me he was fairly competent and didn’t need any direct input from me. Straight A’s on the assessment form.

All the trains ran to time, the last being a little early so we could pack up and sign off duty sooner than we thought.

We did do a bit of housework as there was time to do so. We polished all the brasses and, as you can see, gave the floor a good vacuuming, collecting up a vast number of dead flies which we sold to the makers of Garibaldi biscuits.
