If you can't beat them...

Winter Droving.

The winter droving is brain child of Eden Arts.  It has been running a number of years now but hasn't yet settled to any particular date.  It gives the impression of moving each year.  The highlight is the procession of "lanterns" and people in costumes carrying flaming torches.

The droving is to commemorate the movement of stock from the country into the towns in autumn for the sales.  As a result most (all?) of the lanterns are animal related.  From memory we saw, horses, cattle, a boar, geese, a stag and this wolf.  The teenagers pulling the Cart give an idea of scale and this was one of the smaller exhibits.

The bad news.  My camera is playing up.  For a few days the first shot I have taken is extremely under exposed.  Tonight without warning every single shot was so under exposed that for some shots all that could be seen was a black square.  Clickychick kindly took shots then handed her canon to me for a few shots.  So the canon was back and forward through the whole procession.

On the plus side the events during the day (bands and other live performances) are estimated to bring around 20,000 visitors to the town.  Certainly our guests at the Lodge are  back this year because of their experience of the droving last year.
