There Must Be Magic

Circles in the Snow

It was a cold and blustery day, with spitting snow squalls. We walked up into the woods to get some fresh air and exercise.

Face into the biting wind, I felt truly alive, in the way that I - a December baby - only do in winter.

Although winter is not officially here yet, sometimes I can feel it impatiently blustering around at the edges of things.

We walked to several of the little beaver ponds in the game lands, and found the edges of them covered in snow.

And in the snow, patterns of light and dark; endless patterns of circles in the snow.

"And the seasons they go round and round,
And the painted ponies go up and down,
We're all captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go 'round and 'round and 'round
In the circle game."
- Joni Mitchell, "The Circle Game"
