Carentan: Notre-Dame church, west facade

This site originally had an 11th century Romanesque  church, but it was destroyed in 1443 during the 100 years war.  This is its replacement, built shortly afterwards.

(The last English army in Normandy was defeated in 1450 at the battle of Formigny.  Hostilities ceased in 1453)
