Between fen and mountains

The sluice

Although it is very low lying round here, the risk of flooding is slight so long as all the pumping stations do their job and there is not a North Sea surge that occurs at exactly the same time as heavy rain, thus preventing the water from escaping through the tidal sluice gates. This is a small sluice allowing water from the fields into the river Glen. There is plenty of water to get rid of. We are fortunate but I feel for all those around the country who are in harm's way or suffering the results of damaging floods. It must be heartbreaking.
