Sgwarnog: In the Field

Kick

This was my first league game of the season at Guiseley, although I've been along to friendly, cup and youth fixtures. After last season's debacle they have stablised a little in the National League North and have made it through to the First Round proper of the FA Cup, so not a bad year so far.

Tonight's visitors were Blyth Spartans who have been having an under par season compared to their recent standards. Those of you with long memories may recall that I visited them the season before last when they went on to become champions of the Northern Premier League. At that time they were two leagues below Guiseley, but their promotion and Guiseley's relegation mean that they are now facing up against each other for the first time in eight seasons.

Blyth took an early lead before the Lions levelled with a penalty. Another goal before the break saw Blyth ahead at half-time, a lead they extended mid-way through the second half. 1-3 it finished; Blyth were deserved winners.

Here we see Blyth keeper Peter Jameson preparing for a goal kick deep in the second half.
