Smokin.....

A day of cattle and sheep work.
Wee brother and the two herds busy branding gimmers. These are last years ewe lambs that are kept for breeding. They get a permanent mark on each horn with a hot iron, one horn has a letter for the farm name, the other a number for the year they were born. The horn doesn’t have any feeling in the outer layer so the sheep aren’t in any pain . But the smell of the smoke is one you don’t forget !
Myself and the other 2 managed to get all the 80 heifers clipped and vaccinated . Would have been finished sooner but ran out of pour in wormer so had to dash to Carr’s Billington at Penicuik for some more. Managed to fit in a cup of coffee and a chat with our rep while I was there( would have been rude to refuse )
Littlemiss at a friends for Halloween tonight so this is the first year in a very long time that I haven’t made a turnip lantern- I refuse point blank to do pumpkins !
