Tethered...

The sun tried to come out this morning, out over the swollen, flooded river Avon, just on the southern edge of Salisbury. It obviously didn't like what it saw and went back into hibernation. You can also see the extent of the flooding, the far bank of the river is where the big tree is.

Only went out with a lens I'm quite critical of, the far-ranging 18-200mm Nikkor VR, on the D7000. In this case, it was actually useful as I squeezed the lens barrel through some heavy galvanised bars, after the lesnhood had been removed. Indeed, I cropped a bit of the out of focus railing on the right. My other lenses are much fatter, due to them having faster apertures and so would have been no good.

This is the cadet's brand new training HQ and someone had left the carpark gate open and so any inquisitive snapper would have had a snoop...

The lens did OK, after some distortion correction, to remove the barrel distortion (straight lines bow outwards, towards the edges) inherent in (cheaper) wideangle zooms and a little extra sharpening. Some shadow extraction and that was that. It was tempting to add a warm-up filter but I decided to keep with the cool, winter blues accentuated by the boats. I also decided to keep the ropes in the top left (for a flag) as they help hold in that bare corner - and don't look too much like telegraph wires.
