Bridge over the Kelvin, Garscube Estate

Sunshine has returned. The University of Glasgow purchased Garscube Estate in 1948. It is now parkland and part of the Kelvin Walkway and is also home to the School of Veterinary Medicine, Weipers Centre for Equine Welfare, the Small Animal Hospital and substantial sports facilities. The closure of factories and the cleansing effect of decades of rain led to anglers and scientists celebrating the first official opening of the salmon season on the river in 1999. Further significant improvements came when old waste water treatment works in the Kelvin's catchment were closed.
