Ross Monument

This is Ross Monument in Rostrevor, Co. Down. It is in memory of General Robert Ross, born in Rostrevor in 1776. He is accredited with burning down the White House and inspiring the writer of the Star Spangled Banner to write what was to become the National Anthem of the U.S.A. in 1931. The monument was built on the site he had planned to use to build his retirement home on when he returned from America. This morning's history lesson!
Thanks Larchlea, because I wanted to take a photo in Rostrevor, I learnt something new xxx
