Culture in the dreich

I woke up to a grey, drizzly day so when Fred asked if we should go and see Rust & Bone at the Brixton Ritzy, which sounded like a very good idea. A wet day means cinema time without guilt of wasting a sunny day outside. There weren't many people who'd shared this opinion and there were only six people in screen 4. The film is incredibly powerful and moving, with challenging scenes, incredible acting and a story that powers the viewer from one emotion to the next. There's no cheese at all, which was surprising given the characters (a terrible father who runs away from responsibility and an orca instructor who suffers a terrible accident that leaves her disabled). Both Fred and I were reduced to tears in places. It's a film that will return to my mind for some time. Brilliant.

We did think we might watch another film afterwards, but this one was so powerful that we didn't wish to dilute it. So, we headed off to the Tate Britain to see the Pre-Raphaelites exhibition. It was so busy, though, that we couldn't enjoy it that much. I think we'll have to return at a quieter time.
