Return to the North

Lest we forget

Our local village has a residents group on Facebook and the other day they posted a timetable for some Remembrance weekend activities in the next village along.
Today there was a football match followed by the singing of Silent Night, to commemorate the match on the Somme. This was to be followed by a fly over from a biplane called ‘The Red Baron’. The biplane was to do a poppy drop. Each poppy dropped represented 10,000 lives lost in WW1. There was also an exhibition in the pavilion, with a host of other activities.
It was very moving. Silent night made me weep and reading the stories and looking at the photos of those that were lost from the village just added to the feeling of loss.
This is the poppy drop in motion
