Saturday

The heavy rain and winds had blown themselves out by this morning, though we did get some rain midday as I met Ann at the Blues Cross.  Unfortunately this meant everyone dived into the nearest cafes, Pret and Coffee #1.  We did find a table in Pret after a while and settled to a nice lunch and drink.

As it is the Armistice weekend I took a look through Ann's collection of postcards, from her grandfather Will to his wife-to-be Daisy and also from Daisy's brother Ted to her.  Both were soldiers in the first world war based at camps in England in 1917 prior to deployment to Egypt and France.

This postcard is dated 2nd March 1917 from Will to Daisy, I like the idea that the soldier pictured on the front is just checking his phone!
