Life from a City

Remembrance

6am this morning, a piper, who had travelled down from Scotland, played three laments on the terrace outside Temple Newsam House, as the start of the city's Remembrance Sunday events. There were around 30 of us hardy enough to be there for it. It was still dark - the extra was taken half an hour later.

Temple Newsam House was converted to be a rehabilitation hospital during the first world war. The house was also the birthplace of Lord Darnley, husband to Mary, Queen of Scots. Hence the piper.
