Motion-sensitive cameras

This is continued from yesterday. The photo shows cameras that are commonly referred to as trail cams or camera traps. The Wingscapes Birdcam was the first I acquired. It takes motion-triggered photos similar in quality to photos from a small digital camera. It has a built-in flash which allows photos to be taken in very low light, but it doesn't seem to trigger in pitch darkness.  The other two cameras have infrared LEDs to allow photos or videos to be taken in complete darkness. They seem to be designed to spot large animals (maybe like deer) 20 metres away, and are rather bright for photographing hedgehogs and mice - that's why I've got them covered with several layers of black tape to cut down the amount of infrared. They do work in daylight as well. One of the trail cams is a well known make that I thought might be much better than the other cheaper model, but I was wrong.  There are lots of different cheap ones available at Amazon now - one of these would be an excellent start to find out what wildlife visits your garden when you're not there.
