Tiong Bahru

My Visit Singapore App informed me that Tiong Bahru was the oldest housing estate in Singapore and if you visited this quaint community, you’ll immediately notice an intriguing mix of old and new. It definitely ticked that box!

Also it told me that whilst many older residents have lived in shophouses and flats for decades, the younger generation now live here because of the high quality housing, shops and community spirit.

Seemed like this ‘hipster’ area of the city was well worth a visit and it didn’t disappoint. We wandered round part of the heritage trail, saw some eye-catching street art and enjoyed a very tasty coffee and delicious honeyed raisin cake in the very highly rated local bakery.

Later we visited the beautiful and serene Japanese Garden which we didn’t have time to view yesterday as we had melted in in the heat of the day! It, too, didn’t disappoint!
