Keeping Me Sane

By CKJohnson

Reflections...

With the two year anniversary of my son's death coming up on December 5th, I spend my time reflecting on the past almost every minute. I promise not to carry this on for a week but today has been a particularly difficult day. Everyone mentions Christmas in the normal phrases like, "are you ready for Christmas?" or "did you see the beautiful lights downtown on the square?". All reminders of a little boy that loved Christmas and its true meaning. If the funds were available he would buy just the right gift. If funds were not available his creative mind would come up with something he could weld into the most amazing gift. A picture frame, birdhouse, plant holder or wind chime using scraps from the shop where he worked.

He was 6'5" and had the biggest heart for everyone, especially those that didn't have friends or were treated wrongly because they were different. He was the type of guy that would take up for you but never hurt anyone else in the process.

He married a young mother who was pregnant with twin girls. He wanted to be their provider and protector but two surgeries for Spinal Stenosis put an end to that. The girl's 2nd birthday was three weeks after he died of pneumonia. He promised his wife that he would go to the doctor on Monday but he passed away on Sunday evening. Shortly after his death, his wife moved on with her life. I can't do that. He was my best buddy, fishing partner, and travel companion. Photography and friends, both local and blippers all over the world help keep me sane and for that I thank you all.
