En route (again)

This morning we had a little wander around the environs of the accommodation, to find some breakfast in the cafe attached to the Amurin Museum of Workers' Housing. We didn't have a lot of time before we had to check out of the accommodation, but we saw enough to tell us that there were plenty of interesting places around that part of the city.

There was a distinct shortage of trains to Helsinki today, as a result of track works south of Tampere. Only a couple of long distance trains were scheduled. The rest were replaced by the dreaded rail replacement buses. We'd booked ourselves on to an intercity that had come all the way from Rovaniemi, but that did mean a bit of hanging around between leaving the accommodation and taking the train, which we accomplished partly in the excellent station cafe.

On arrival in Helsinki, it was a quick tram ride to one of our favourite parts of the city, Jätkäsaari, which has supplied a number of blips and been the destination of quite a few walks and excursions, where we were booked into a brand new hotel. It's not the city centre, but it's an attractive and changing area with lots of water, and we have an excellent view from our window (see extra and one of the extras to this blip for another view of that bridge).

For dinner, we popped out to Kannas. A Helsinki institution. It was only 15 minutes walk away.
