The Family

Well I've made it through a month of blips - only another eleven to go!

This statue is called 'The Family'. It was carved by Graeme Mitcheson out of sandstone and it stands at the crossroads in Fillongley. It shows a family group consisting of father, mother, son and daughter, with each holding a representation of Fillongley's local heritage.

The father is holding a lamb, for its farming associations. The mother is holding a lantern as a light always used to burn in the church to remember villagers who had died. The daughter is holding a banner of silk to remember the ancient silk weaving industry and the son is holding a loaf of bread to remember the village's ancient mill that once made the village self-sufficient.
