Life in a Northern Town

Lights

The Hotel de Ville again - this time displaying the nightly light show - it was very impressive.

In the morning we went to the immersive Van Gogh exhibition - we sat on deck chairs in a gob-smackingly beautiful and vast building watching the great man's work animated in 360 degrees - we loved it. We then tried a bus tour but were thwarted at every turn by the enormous climate change demonstration (it was a very good natured demo as you might expect) so we gave up on trying to see the Atomium and went back to the Christmas markets and chocolate shops.

In the evening we watched the various light shows again and ventured up the Big Wheel - we were delighted to spot The Atomium all lit up in the distance so we don't feel cheated of that!

Up very early this morning to rush back for Sarah to go to college this afternoon - just as we got on the train at Kings Cross she received a message to say college was cancelled - never mind, it saved a stressful drive from Wakefield. I'd definitely use Eurostar again though - haven't been on it for 15 years but it's certainly a lot less hassle than flying.

We have unpacked the mountains of chocolate  - we didn't even bring back any beer!
