Life in a Northern Town

Things that go drip in the night.

Not just my nose.

We had an all night rota to empty the jug catching the leak in the central heating system - it's in such an awkward place we can only fit a really narrow plastic jug to catch the drips so it required hourly attention.

So now we have no heating - we do have hot water thankfully as we have an emergency immersion (don't even think about the leccy bill, memories of the immersion switch being patrolled by my dad in the 70s, one hour, once a week and that was your lot!). The system was new in February after we went the best part of a month with no heating, so we do at least have plenty of fan heaters (to melt down the National Grid whilst heating the 6 square inches of air in front of them...). It's not the boiler, the leak is elsewhere on the sealed system so as the water pressure drops the leak should slow down and - allegedly - stop. The boiler engineer, who is away until Friday,  promised to ring me this morning when he'd found someone he trusted to come out - needless to say he hasn't, and isn't answering messages. I suspect nothing will happen until at least Monday - probably next Friday so we will just get the thermals out and be thankful for our many other blessings.

Monster cold update - after a week we are at the Barry White stage. Whilst I know there will be weeks of phlegm ahead, at least it signals the beginning of the end. I just hope to be able to hear again someday.

Oh, and Thursday's delivery will DEFINITELY be here between 12 and 1 today. We shall see.
