Sgwarnog: In the Field

Gantry

It was a special night for Guiseley AFC, although as it transpired, not in terms of the result.

It was only the SECOND time that they had reached the SECOND round of the FA Cup, and just the SECOND time that they had they had hosted a live fully televised match, hence the camera laden gantry and the car park full of outside broadcast trucks.

League One Fleetwood Town were the visitors and being three leagues above the Lions were clear favourites, but it was Guiseley that dominated the opening exchanges. It all turned around on the half hour though, with Fleetwood scoring a breakaway goal and then being gifted a SECOND after a mix-up between Guiseley's goalie and defender. At that stage it looked like Fleetwood woud run away with it, but the Lions got one back almost straight away: Alex Purver with an opportunistic long range finish after a forced error from the Fleetwood keeper.

The SECOND half was a poor affair, a lot of long balls and hacked clearances. Guiseley pressed but the ball didn't fall for them. Fleetwood used their experience to manage the game to a conclusion.

So that's been TWO FA Cup ties for me in TWO days, with TWO away wins for the higher ranked opposition. On that basis I propose this blip to be suitably aligned with today's Mono Monday key word of DEUCE. Would anyone care to SECOND that motion?
