Frozen in time

It is amazing how memories can be called back by a song, a phrase, a fragrance. Precious moments frozen in time for eternity. Some moments we can call up at will, others hit us like a freight train when we least expect them. The most powerful for me are shared memories. When you think of someone and know that memory is shared by no one else. The most poignant are memories that can never be recreated.Time, literally slipping through our fingers. And then there are those times when you know in the moment that you are creating a memory. When you know you are going to look back on this and smile!

Today Megan and I packed up her bedroom. We had a ball looking through her old school work, reading diaries she had kept when she was just a little little girl. Deciding which soft toys to keep and which to donate was so hard for her. She kept removing them from the donation bag and putting them with the keepers. Bless her little heart she kissed each one and said goodbye to the ones she is giving away. Bits of her childhood in a bin liner, it is enough to make you weep! And we did! But we also laughed, we laughed a lot. We laughed at the lists she had made. Megan has always been one for lists. The funniest were her lists of boyfriends, with some names scored out and new ones added. Lists of music she liked, lists of books she wanted to read, lists, lists, lists! The jigsaw pieces of her life up until now all packed into boxes. And that is when it occurred to me that our children are part of us and came from us but are also separate from us. She has memories that I don't share. She has memories that I don't like. Thank heavens she also has memories that I do share and for the most part, those are the ones that made us laugh until we fell over!
