Thirsty work

There seems to be a fashion at the moment for bee hives in suburban back yards.

Which is all very well, but they are causing me a bit of a problem.  There are so many using our birdbath for their source of water, that they are driving the birds away.  They also pose a threat to the dogs - Ollie's dog Ernie goes into anaphylactic shock with bee stings.  Don't know about George, but it's something I don't want to find out.

Apparently, according to the all-seeing all-knowing Google, the only way to get rid of them is to empty out the bird bath and pray they find elsewhere to slake their thirst.
