Bury St Edmunds

Despite the vile weather, pouring rain, huge puddles and horrendous spray on the motorways we arrived in the beautiful town of Bury mid-afternoon to be greeted by B, one of Mr T's granddaughters who is currently working at The Fox pub before going back to Uni soon to get her teaching degree having just graduated with honours in Geography. We couldn't stay in her pub as all the accommodation was taken this evening but B had booked us into the sister pub, The Dog and Partridge, just up the road so after getting ensconced there B took us on a tour of this beautiful town/city which looked even prettier with all the lights and decorations everywhere. The Angel hotel in the centre of town looked particularly wonderful, cloaked in natural ivy and decorated beautifully. Charles Dickens stayed at the hotel some time ago (so the plaque said!) and it's said that during his stay he was inspired to write David Copperfield and a recent re-make of the film took place here. We shall explore the rest of this interesting town in daylight tomorrow.

Meanwhile back to B's pub for a warm by the roaring log fire and a few snifters before dinner; it's become a bit of a lottery trying to make up one's mind as to what gin to have with what tonic these days!! B's father came to join us for dinner and we joined in the pub quiz later - we didn't win :-/!
