Pink Lady

Today is Advent Sunday and this is the Advent Crown all ready for lighting in today's service.

It was lit but not in church as our new heating system failed to come on due to a blown fuse!

The crown was carried through to the family room where it was warm and one of the purple candles was lit during the service.

The white candle in the middle is lit on Christmas day but I was curious about the pink one.

Bob (the vicar) told us it was the 'Lady' or 'Mary' candle traditionally lit last of the four outer candles on the last Sunday in Advent before Christmas day.

This was new to most of us and frankly I felt it looked a bit discordant but he went on to tell us that apart from this tradition (predominantly of the catholic faith) the pink candle was £10 less than the purple ones!!!!!!
