I am Captain

Today we headed on our annual trip to the Victorian Festival of Christmas down at the old dockyard. We got there in time for the Edelweiss Bavarian Showband who were great. Before the oompahs started started I had the excitement of bumping in to an old friend which was great. When the music started we all had a dance and a laugh. I was shocked when they turned out to be rather more local than first thought.

We then did the usual wandering round the stalls, stopping to watch some dancing and shows on the streets (which Girl loved) before going to see a rather disappointing Father Christmas thing on stage that we ended up walking away from half way through. In all the festival somehow was not quite as Christmassy as we hoped this year. Still it was good but in recent years meeting the green Santa had been quite good on HMS Warrior. Last year it moved to a lecture theatre which was not so good but todays was some strange rather unjoyous stage show, that the little ones disliked even more than us. Thankfully we had already met the big man yesterday so it was no great loss.

We then popped into one of the museum shops where Boy took a shine to a Captains hat, which he would only take off to pay for it. After a bit more wandering around with Boy telling all who would listen that he was the captain we had a family ride on the merry go round which was ace. Before we went home we popped on to the Warrior. As we entered a sailor saluted Boy, which did nothing to ease his hat powered power trip. Once below deck we saw Queen Victoria, complete with Billy Conolly and some other uniformed chaps in the posh bit. I leant Boy in the window where he announced he was the Captain.

It turned out that the real Captain was not at ease with this announcment and came over to announce himself right back at Boy. Luckily they both took it well and soon shook hands, smiled and had a chat. As we were leaving, they wandered past us and all said goodbye to Boy by name not rank though.
