Where the ships came in

Yes, I used this title just over a week ago when my blip was of Leith. Today we were at Port Carlisle. A little smaller, but still once a thriving port where sea-going ships came in and went on by canal to Carlisle. Hard to imagine this now peaceful place as a busy centre full of ships and people. The photo was taken from what was the quayside, the remains of the uprights of the pier used by the packet ships are still visible. And in the distance, across the Solway, is the coast of Scotland.

This is marpaul country and I fully expected to find Misty running along. We had been in the Carlisle area in the morning and suddenly decided to make the most of a lovely, if chilly, day and head for the coast for a walk in the sunshine. Storms and maybe snow tomorrow.
