Flight

Over the five or so years that I have been attentive to birds, and taking photos of them, I have been aware of a Taranui (Caspian tern) which appears to preferentially hang out with the Variable Oystercatchers on the rocks.Maori gave the pied morph the name of Torea tai, and the black morph (which those in the extra photo appear to be) has the name Torea pango. Once the Torea start their warning calls, and long before they fly away themselves, the Taranui responds to the warning by taking flight.

After my "birdwalk", I organised lunch on the deck, and have included a quick snapshot as a second extra.
