Silly Saturday - Silly Stair-Rods!

Here in the North of England we sometimes describe very heavy rain as "stair-rods". You might think it's a silly expression, but I think this photo shows that it can be quite a good description. (Stair-rods are, of course, the metal rods that hold stair-carpets in place on each step.)

I wasn't silly enough to go outside to take this photo - I took it through the window so the raindrops on the glass added useful bokeh.

It was actually a very cold, sleety sort of rain, which started within a few minutes of us arriving home from Macclesfield after a very easy journey. We'd have been silly to set off for our drive fairly late in the day, as we'd originally planned, as the weather forecast had predicted heavy snow in the northeast: we just said a quick "goodbye" to Mum-in-Law at coffee time and set off before noon. Although the snow didn't materialise, driving through the heavy sleety rain wouldn't have been much fun.

Thanks as always to admirer for hosting Silly Saturday.
