Shadows in the shadows

Today was my day with the urgent service, what was once a crisis team, and before that.... ? Saw a young man with a severe 20 year psychosis whose multinational peripatetic life has meant no one has engaged him in optimal treatment. Yes he has been given medication, which he takes but the side effects far outweigh the benefits. And he has stayed nowhere long enough to receive psychosocial interventions, and reassessment of which medication may be best. His younger brother was escorting him home where maybe this time he will engage with services.

On the way from Auckland City Hospital to GreenLane, the shuttle had to stop opposite this mural and I got the photo I’ve desired for more than a year.
