Silly Saturday: Silly Migraine! (Not me though)

Silly old migraine!

No, not me (although I do very occasionally get one) - but Son #2 started with a migraine at breakfast time. Unfortunately he's been prone to them pretty well all his life but they've been a bit more troublesome recently: he takes magnesium supplements which are said to help prevent them but he does still get some episodes. As usual, they start with loss of half his vision then he gets a nasty headache and has to lie down in a darkened room.

This was a shame as all 6 of us (Son #2, his partner, Son #1, Son #3 and my Editor & I) had planned to leave home at about 11 o'clock to drive to Macclesfield. Our car has 2 extra seats hidden under the boot floor which we can raise when we need them, so we can all fit in one car - but as you can see the luggage then has to go on the roof. (The extra seats are a little on the small size for adults but happily the youngsters are still reasonably flexible and adaptable!)

Happily in the end, with the help of naproxen and co-codamol medication, plus 3 hours sleep, Son #2 felt well enough for us to leave home at 1pm. The roads were much less busy than we'd expected so we've arrived safely in Macclesfield in time to go out for an evening meal, and we even had time to stop off in Sheffield for an hour to visit my Editor's sister there. (And our travel delay was as nothing compared with those poor souls at Gatwick who've been held up by the drone incident!)

We're here to take Mum-in-Law out tomorrow for a pre-Christmas lunch. We've pondered long and hard to decide whether to take her to Newcastle for Christmas itself, but when we did this last year & the year before her Alzheimers caused her to get very confused. The staff in her care home assure us that they make sure all the residents have a really good time on Christmas Day itself, so after tomorrow's lunch we'll leave her in their tender care and drive home.

I'm sure she'll love seeing her three grandchildren tomorrow and hopefully that'll make up for her not seeing them on Christmas Day itself.

Many thanks to admirer for hosting Silly Saturday. I've been a bit silly and done my best to mock up the visual disturbance of migraine in this shot of our car, all set up and ready to go!
