Northern Humour

Market Place Shopping Centre in Bolton town centre was originally a market hall full of goods and produce stalls.  I didn't see the hall prior to its' modernisation about 10 years ago but everyone I have ever spoken to about it says the building was ruined as a result of the work.  It's a still beautiful Grade II Victorian building constructed of stone and ornate iron work (I'll Blip the actual building at some point) but the shop fronts that have been inserted in place during the renovation I can only describe as plastic looking; the mixture of heritage and modern looks awkward.

However, over the last few years incremental changes have been made that have improved the ambience of the centre such as seating for weary shoppers and a number of Northern sayings around openings in the first floor.  They are meant to be slightly tongue in cheek and and they make me smile.  For those who require a 'translation' into Queen's English the saying in the main photo means something like 'It was done really well'.  The extra means something like 'Bolton is a fine Lancashire town'.
