Steel Girls

We took a Boxing Day walk into Sheffield City Centre today and I had an enjoyable mooch around. There's plenty to see; both old and modern architecture to look at; the modern often big, bold and confident; the old more unassuming and stylish. We joined (inadvertently) a few dozen Sheffield United fans pre-match in a delightfully old-fashioned pub, The Rutland Arms - a decent selection of ale and a carpeted floor - always a plus for me.

This statue celebrates the women who worked in the steel factories and mills during the two world wars - in the background one of the many cranes that proliferate in the city erecting even more bold and confident structures no doubt.
