Shopping

For anyone who has read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, I think shoppers are people who have lost their daemons.

For anyone who hasn't read it, shopping destroys the soul. It should be done only as absolutely necessary and then only for a maximum of half an hour at a time (or an hour if it's for books).

If anyone out there disagrees, would you like to come and do mine?

Later, in response to comments:
My daughter, who works in a bookshop, says plaintively, 'Oh no, everyone is shopping online. My job is going to die. We try to make it nice. We try to be nice to people.
