Þorláksmessa

This is the only Saints Day in Iceland, and has the tradition of eating putrid skate (which we skipped this time!)
The evening is all about last minute shopping, and shops stay open till 11pm. Everyone goes downtown and sees the lights and gets that last minute present. This is the Christmas cat in lights, a part of Iceland's unique Christmas Yule lads story.
