Happy new year!

After a morning dodging the rain amongst the ruins of the royal palaces and temples of Polonnaruwa we stopped at this lovely roadside cafe, the Waandora.

Neither Betty nor I were actually hungry, having had too many buffets already on this trip, but everything was too good to refuse. All well presented in wood fired pots. The breadfruit curry was a particular favourite as was the curd and honey dessert.

On to Kandy via a herb and spice garden that included a face and neck massage. All very interesting but they need to sort out their packaging.

Kandy is a bustling city with too much traffic and pollution. The colonial past is still there but buried under advertising hoardings.

The lake around which the main town is situated is stunning though and the main temple that houses the Buddha’s tooth (yes, just the one) is particularly busy as it is the new year.

Another buffet meal at the hotel some dancing and a New Years countdown. What more do you need?
