Little Gems

After the double dinner of the previous evening we forewent breakfast and so gave ourselves more recovery time in the morning.
After an orientation walk into Kandy by the lakeside we headed for one of the many the gem factories in town. This was an element of this trip that we had been dreading from the start. These normally involve hanging around a room full of very expensive items that no one has any interest in buying. This was different. This was a room full of very expensive items that most of our group actually wanted to buy. The variety of gems was quite amazing and as they come in different shapes and sizes then there was something for most pockets. Betty opted for a small blue star sapphire with an interesting ring that they would then set the gem into.

Then through the traffic to the delightful Botanic gardens where we happily whiled away a few hours amongst the tropical trees, fruit bats and picnicking locals.

Returning by one of the local buses the day ended with a traditional display of traditional dancing and drumming in a theatre that was, like a fair few places here, in need of a lick of paint. Fire walking and tumbling completed the show.
