Fake Bumblebee

I didn’t recognise this big fly when I saw it feeding on nectar from the curry flowers. When I looked at it on my computer screen it was obvious- a large narcissus fly. It’s a hover fly, larger than a drone fly, and it’s larvae munch on daffodil bulbs. It can easily be mistaken for a bumblebee. They are usually around in spring.

I went to Christchurch to do my shopping, the first time in a month. Although I visited just a few shops in one general area, and was back for lunch, I feel completely wrecked.Today was a good day to go as it was a bit cooler and there wasn’t much traffic.

Extra shot is of a lizard that let me get so close I took a macro of it.
